History of Reederei Riedel

The Reederei Riedel has a long and proud history. Founded in 1971 by Margarete und Heinz Riedel, the companies main seat is in Kreuzberg, today Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, directly in the heart of Berlin. In 1996 Freise family bought the company.

With 14 ships and 38 landing stages in the city area today we are the second largest passenger-shipping company in Berlin. Since 1997 we modernize our fleet; since 2003 for our customers six brand new ships have constructed.

In 2003: the passenger ships Spree-Comtess and Kreuzberg; in 2005: the Spree-Diamant, Europes saftest and most innovative passenger ship; in 2006: Spree-Blick I – III, three new developed panorama-ships for our Berlin city tours.

Starting with the foundation the Reederei Riedel offered tours through the Landwehrkanal; until the late eighties these were day trips to Berlin-Tegel or the Wannsee lake. In the middle of the eighties the first city tours were offered. These where limited by the Berlin Wall. With the fall of the Berlin Wall you can go by ship on Spree and Landwehrkanal. This 3,5-hours trip is our most famous tour today in Berlin. The Reederei Riedel has its main focus on these City tours.
